We warmly welcome all who share the commitment to zealously
follow Jesus Christ, to rejoice with us in celebrating the Biblical
Feast of Tabernacles and Eighth Day!
2009
will be our seventh celebration on the central Oregon coast
in the picturesque setting of Newport, a community known for
its friendliness and for its claim to "more to do than
anywhere else on the coast." Newport is conveniently situated
on the Pacific Coast Highway 101, approximately 3 hours southwest
of Portland International Airport, or 1 hour west of Interstate
5, from the Highway 34 exit south of Albany.
The
dates for the Festival are reckoned according to the Scriptural
Calendar used during the time of Jesus Christ and the early
apostles -- the year begins with the month of Abib, and the
months with the lunar crescent as seen from Jerusalem. Thus,
this year's Feast will begin officially on Sunday evening, October
4, and continue through the Great Eighth Day on Monday, October
12.
Honoring
God's Holy Days as days not to be trampled underfoot by unnecessary
travel or by the conduct of business, Feast-goers will arrive
on site before the first Holy Day begins and take care to not
depart during holy time.
We
are blessed to enjoy the use of a bright and spacious meeting
room, kitchen facility, and mothers' room, located in the City
of Newport's outstanding Recreation Center. The meeting room
will serve as our venue for Church services, as well as for
relaxing potluck meals on the weekly Sabbaths and on both of
the Festival Holy Days. A Church service will held on each day,
with numerous additional opportunities for family activities
and collective fellowship.
Sermons
will be offered in English, with translation into Spanish available.
A
wide variety of lodging options are available in Newport and
the surrounding area, ranging from modest to elegant. There
can be significant variation in value for cost. We have visited
a number of establishments, and are happy to provide recommendations
for you upon your request.
