"Thus Says the Lord!" |
 |
Glossing over the lack of prophets within modern "Christianity,"
most denominations suggest that the gift of prophecy can
be represented merely by inspired preaching or teaching.
On the
other hand, at least two major denominations - the Mormons
("prophet" Joseph Smith) and the Seventh Day Adventists
("prophetess" Ellen G. White) - base their fundamental
doctrines on beliefs in modern prophecy.
Was
Joseph Smith a prophet of the Almighty Creator God?
Was Ellen G. White "the Lord's messenger"
- "more than [a] prophet," as she claimed?
Or are these and other individuals imposters
- false prophets?
How can we know?
Can prophets and prophetesses even exist
in the Body of Christ today?

out what the Lord really says!

When Should We Observe the Christian Passover? |
 |
Tragic bewilderment reigns among God’s people pertaining
to this crucial Christian memorial. Some believe that they
must observe the Passover at the beginning of the
fourteenth, some suppose it should be mid-afternoon,
and others think they ought to wait until the end
of the day – effectively placing the observance on the fifteenth.
When
should members of our Savior’s Body be observing
the Passover? How can we come to God’s mind on this
vital matter?
This
booklet-length article provides much-needed Scriptural
answers through a careful examination of key Biblical

Divergence in the Church: Preserving the Unity of the Faith |
 |
Hours
before His crucifixion, Jesus prayed to the Father on our
behalf, that by our oneness we might witness to the world
– “that they may be perfected in unity, so that the world
may know that You sent Me, and loved them, even as You have
loved Me.”
What
is the foundation for this spiritual oneness? Does Godly
accord preclude divergence? Or are some differences of
doctrine and practice to be tolerated within His Church?
Should
the Church enforce unity? Suspension from Christian
fellowship – often called "disfellowshipment"
or "excommunication" – is brandished like a weapon
by some, but is despised by many as a "harsh"
punitive practice.
How
would Jesus have us properly address divergence, so as to
build and preserve vital unity of faith within His Body?

The Most Important Question |
 |
“What is the most important theological question for God’s
Church today?”
In
recent years, ministers and members functioning as teachers
within the Churches of God have attached singular importance
to one Biblical issue after another – writing articles,
hosting conferences, etc., proclaiming favorite topics to
be among “the most important theological questions of all.”
What
does God have to say about all of this? Is one or
another of these pet issues actually so crucial for our
Christian growth? Or does our Almighty Creator have something
much greater for His people to tackle? What is the most
important question for the Church today? Are we really
able to know?
Indeed,
we can know. God reveals His mind on this matter

The Manna Principle: Crucial Key to Our Sabbath Rest |
 |
"Our fathers ate the manna in the wilderness; as it
is written, 'HE GAVE THEM BREAD OUT OF HEAVEN TO EAT.'"
God
creates every human being with an unrelenting need to eat.
For the many who are gripped by poverty, existence centers
around the constant search for food. For those with abundance,
food is a vital recurring pleasure of daily life. Should
we be surprised then, that our Creator intertwines food
among the significant themes of His instruction to us?
Indeed,
more often than not in Scripture, God makes food an integral
part of holiness or consecration. Why exactly, does God
choose food as a central theme of His Holy Sabbaths? What
greater principles is God teaching?
How
must these teachings impact your week-to-week
Christian practice?

Is a Sabbath Commanded for Christians? |
 |
The Biblical creation account, which describes the six days
of God’s creative endeavors, concludes with the establishment
of the divinely sanctified rest on the seventh day.
Yet
in our modern world, the vast majority of people who call
themselves Christians reject Sabbath-keeping. Those who
do cling to a Sabbath, generally substitute the first day
of the week, in place of the Biblically-mandated seventh
day. Even among those who do keep the seventh-day Sabbath,
few understand its observance to be one of the defining
requirements for Christianity.
We
may choose to deny any great significance in a rest day;
but is ours the determining opinion?
The
crucial question is: “What does the heavenly Creator
have to say about these practices, carried on in His name?”
Is
a Sabbath commanded for Christians? If so, which day must
we observe as God’s Sabbath? Can any be true Christians,
apart from Sabbath-keeping?
This
booklet-length article will take you to some New Testament
passages which reveal surprising truths about the 7th
day Sabbath!

Was Jesus a Friend of Sinners? |
 |
The Pharisees and lawyers scorned Jesus Christ, claiming,
'Behold,
a gluttonous man, and a drunkard, a friend of tax-gatherers
and sinners!'
Was
Jesus a comrade of those who were unrepentant? Do we find
Christ schmoozing with the ungodly? Did our Lord and Savior
seek out friendships, social connections or ingratiation
with impious human leaders – with the “gatekeepers” of society?
Scripture
establishes that our Savior was “tempted in all things as
we are, yet without sin.”
What
then, was Jesus’ relationship with sinners? Discover the
startling answer to this crucial question!

| The
Redeeming Sacrifice of Jesus Christ: Healing for Our Sins,
Sicknesses and Sorrows |
 |
Searching Scripture, one finds an extraordinary link between
sin and illness. Church of God leader, Herbert W. Armstrong, long ago
recognized certain aspects of this fact, stating in his
1952 booklet, Does God Heal Today? :
"Consequently, healing is nothing more or less
than the FORGIVENESS OF SIN – the consequent removal
from us of the PENALTY we have incurred – and no human doctor,
no medicine, no drug, has ever been given power to forgive
sin – whether spiritual or physical!"
In
contrast, others have asserted that "divine healing
is God's miraculous answer to the prayer of the sick person,
nothing less or nothing more."
What
is the Biblical truth? You need to know. Your physical
and spiritual life and health are at stake!

| The
Christian Passover: The Real Lord's Supper |
 |
As true Christians, we understand that we should not seek
to change God's directives, except as they have been explicitly
changed in Scripture. For
example: we keep God’s Sabbath, not the first day of the
week; we keep God’s annual Holy Days, rather than adapted
pagan holidays; at the same time, we do not require the
circumcision of non-Israelites.
From the Bible,
we also understand that the Passover was originally commanded
by God to be observed as a family meal, which included as
fare, a young lamb
(or goat), unleavened bread, and bitter herbs.
(Exodus 12:3-9)
Have
these Scriptural instructions changed?
If so, what changes
has God now put into effect? Is the proper Christian observance somewhat similar
to the Catholic “eucharist” or to the Protestant “communion”? Or, is the true
Christian Passover – unlike these popular rituals – a genuine
“Lord’s supper”?

Can Understand God's Calendar!
Part Three: Is Anything Wrong With the Common Jewish Calendar? |
 |
A growing number of Christians are questioning whether the
common Jewish calendar is the correct calendar for God's
true Church. Yet, despite its technical imperfections, that
calendar represents a significant level of human achievement.
More
importantly, however, we must not accept any reckoning
which rejects boundaries that God has
established in Scripture.
How
then, does the common calculated Jewish calendar bear up
- measured by God's standards? Might that calendar, despite
its deficiencies, serve to satisfy God's Scriptural requirements?
Or,
does that commonly accepted rendering conflict
with God's rules for the calendar? You need to
resolve this vital spiritual question!

You
Can Understand God's Calendar!
Part Two: What Is the Biblical New Moon? |
 |
The fact is that the Bible nowhere concisely defines exactly
what astronomical event(s) constitutes the “new moon.”
Yet
God commands us to observe His “appointed times” on very
specific days of certain months. We are to be “cut off”
if we do not comply. (See Exodus 12:15; Leviticus 23:27-30;
Numbers 9:13.)
Are
we then left in the dark, in an impossible predicament,
without the means to know what God considers to be the “new
moon,” with only faint hope of getting it right?
Not
at all! By exploring this matter according to the principles
of Scripture, we can confidently ascertain the Biblical
new moon.

Can Understand God's Calendar!
Part One: What Are God's Rules for the Calendar? |
 |
"The
calendar.” These ordinary words can bring tension into
an otherwise pleasant atmosphere. More and more, Christians
are coming to question which is the correct calendar for
God’s true Church. An exhausting assortment of opinions
swirl around this topic, which has seemed overwhelmingly
complex.
Is
God’s true calendar beyond the ability of the average Christian
to discern? Is this truth of God understandable only to
experts? Has God left you and I without sufficient means
to evaluate the calendar? Does God intend for us to trust
the authority of the Church blindly in this?
Or is there a clear, distinct and straightforward path
to this truth of God, apart from the confusing contradictions
of human reasoning?
This
booklet-length article contains the keys which you need
to understand this vital topic!

| "Born
Again" -- An Issue Which Refuses to Die |
 |
The apostle Peter, speaking to Christians, said, "you
have been born again."
Recently,
heated controversy over this issue has divided members of
Christ's Body. Although many contend that temporal
human Christians are "born
again," some have decried such teaching as heresy.
When
are Christians reborn? What
are the results of our "rebirth," and how does
all of this impact our everyday living?

| Spiritual
Gifts - True or False? |
| |
Is God the only source of miracles? Clearly
not. This may come
as a surprise to many, but Satan can perform what at least
appear to be “healings,” and he can even “answer the prayers”
of those who are disobeying God!
Has
God left us unarmed against a formidable spiritual adversary,
or has He provided us the instruction, the guidance, and
the weapons we need to be able to “quench the fiery darts
of the wicked one”? Can we discern between good and evil,
between the true gifts of the Holy Spirit and the deceptive
wonders of Satan, so that we can endure in faithfulness
to God?
How
will we know what is true and what is false? How
can we know? If we do not discern the difference,
we are lost!

| Should
You Fear Terrorism? |
| |
In the midst of a crescendoing swirl of apprehension and
uncertainty, should we be fearful? To pose the question
more personally, should you fear? Should you be afraid?
Is it
just "the luck of the draw" for each of us - merely
a matter of where we happen to be situated at a crucial
moment? Or is a greater protection available?
What
if you are a Christian - a member of God's true Church
- can you relax in confidence, "having nothing to fear"?
Or might that confidence prove tragically misplaced?
What does the Word of God tell us?

| Terror
In America: Opportunity For Deliverance |
| |
Tuesday, September 11, 2001, at 8:48 a.m. in New York City, horror and terror struck
the United States of America without warning.
From
almost the first instant, our country has framed these events
as an attack of evil against good.
What
should our nation learn from this horrifying and
tragic attack? What should God’s Church learn from
this devastation? What must we, as
individual Christians, learn from these terrible
events? Is it merely good against evil, wrong against right,
oppression and tyranny against freedom? Or is there something
more?

| Why
Are God's People Scattered? |
 |
Jesus prayed that we might be one, just as He and the Father
are one; yet most within His Body recognize that God’s people
are scattered -- dispersed far and wide – within and without
a variety of organizations. Is this simply a matter of God’s
divine will; or perhaps the fulfillment of prophecy, or
is there another reason?
With
all this scattering in the absence of external persecution,
we should and we must ask: Why is it that we have
become so scattered? Why are we, individually and collectively,
so vulnerable to Satan’s attacks? Are the problems in the
Church today "created by many [other] weak ministers
and thousands of [other] weak brethren" or could it
be that it is our fault?

| Interracial
Marriage |
 |
No longer is it politically correct to uphold racial barriers.
Yet some Christians reject interracial marriage on the basis
of sincerely held beliefs. This controversy has the potential
for impacting almost any modern family. The question to
resolve is this: What does the Bible really teach
about interracial marriage?
